Hyperreality is the inability of consciousness to distinguish reality from a simulation of reality, especially in technologically advanced societies. American author Micah Dunham expands on the notion of hyperreality by suggesting that the act of hyperreality is to desire reality and in an attempt to fulfill this desire, to fabricate a false reality to be consumed as real.
Following French philosopher Jean Baudrillard and Dunham’s theory, the questions I am asking in this series are: If the ability to create a false reality exists, HOW do “they” use it and how are we deceived by it? WHO created our definition of a suitable place to live and to what extent is it true? Is the house we “dream” of our real choice?
This series was created as part of the cooperative project "WIE WIR (NICHT) LEBEN" with Arbeiterkammer Vienna.
As part of the eponymous urban exhibition, which was on view from June 26 to September 1, 2024, at various locations across Vienna, DREAM HOUSE was presented on a building fence at Wielandgasse 16 in 1100 Vienna.
