"The longer one tries to preserve something, the more likely it is to start rotting." – Enis Maci
A house permeated with mold. Invisible in the air and algae-like on the walls – spreading to the neighboring house. A dead pigeon, water droplets falling from the ceiling. It is common practice to actively let houses decay, hollow them out, and erect expensive new apartment blocks.
The photo series "On Hold (and holding on)" paints a portrait of stasis, where hope lies quietly buried. The stasis of the last remaining residents, who resisted with all their might until the mold forced them into moving boxes. And the stasis and silent brutality of deliberate decay.
This series was created as part of the cooperative project "WIE WIR (NICHT) LEBEN" with Arbeiterkammer Vienna.
As part of the eponymous urban exhibition, which was on view from June 26 to September 1, 2024, at various locations across Vienna, WET DREAMS was presented in the Bücherei Ottakring, Schuhmeierplatz 17 in 1160 Vienna.
